A house is a unique expression for all of us. Whether it be in a house or hotel
setting, for one family, 16 families or more; it is a place we consider home
or “Home Away from Home.” This 25,000 S.F. ‘house in the woods’ welcomes
families with a circular car port that has a ‘tree of hope’ rising through its green
roof top. All of the trees were saved by positioning the building deeper in the
site, thus embracing, not only nature, but also those who upon arriving, take
their first steps through an exterior foyer, which helps position them
between two welcoming arms of the house. A tree house celebrates children
and is accessible via a ramp on the second level. The guest suites surround
a staircase that signifies 'a hug' in the center and unifies the families in vertical
ascent that brings light and the symbol of hope through the skylights above. The
opportunity to design this house, a “Home Away from Home” was a thrilling experience.
