The Mason Brayman Starring House and the Carl Constantine Heisen House, both landmarks, are two unique buildings on Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive. The mansions originally functioned as single family homes. Over the years, they fell in disrepair and were in danger of demolition.
They were renovated in 1990 into five condominiums with a central connection. Our task was to bring the mansions into single family home grandeur. We combined three units of the Mason Brayman Starring House, approximately 8,200 square feet, into a single family home. A two car garage was added under the house with access from Stone Street. The original staircase was extended and interior alterations were made to the adjoining spaces. Connecting spaces for the Carl Heisen House are incorporated in existing spaces occupied by the rescuers of the mansions.
