As a consultant with the Chicago Park District, Constantine
D. Vasilios was responsible for the restoration of the Helen
Brach Primate House in collaboration with Robert Jones. The
1925 building received an exterior restoration with kindness
including masonry, limestone, portico lighting, grilles, and
other major features. A previous design took away the central portal and we found the opportunity
to recreate them in limestone relief for the ages. Exterior
cages were kept as a historical legacy of the primates the zoo
housed throughout the building’s existence. One can enter
the cage and experience the feeling of being kept and watched.
